The Sources of Anxiety
Anxiety feels like it’s coming at us from everywhere—social media, pressure at work or school, relationships, money, the future—but the Scripture says our deepest anxiety problem doesn’t start “out there”; it starts in our own hearts. 1 Peter 5:6–7 identifies four core sources of anxiety and calls us to bring each one to the God who cares for us.
The One Solution to Anxiety
We try therapy, self‑help, productivity hacks, and distraction to manage our anxiety, yet many of us are still restless on the inside. In the story of Mary and Martha, Jesus lovingly exposes why—even good, religious busyness can leave us worried and upset if it keeps us from him—and he invites us to choose the “good portion” of sitting at his feet, trusting his love, and letting his priorities reorder our lives. Luke 10:38–42 traces five movements in Mary and Martha’s story that reveal why Jesus himself is the only true solution to anxiety, and John 14:27 promises the kind of peace only he can give.
God's Perspective for Anxiety
Anxiety is like a rocking chair. It gives us something to do, but it doesn’t get us anywhere. Jesus counters our fearful perspective with God’s eternal one, reminding us that our Father feeds ravens, clothes lilies, knows what we need, and calls us to seek his kingdom first and treasure heaven more than earth so that worry loses its grip. Luke 12:22–34 unfolds seven life‑giving truths that reshape how we see our lives and help quiet our anxious hearts before God.
The Plan vs. Anxiety
When anxiety hits, most of us either shut down with our thoughts or spin our wheels with activity, but God offers something better than mere distraction. Through Paul, he gives us a practical, repeatable path so that his peace guards our hearts and minds. Philippians 4:4–9 lays out five concrete steps for fighting anxiety and experiencing the steady presence of the God of peace.
